EVC – Recognition of Prior Learning (Erkenning van Verworven Competenties)
For adults with real experience but no matching diploma: have the competencies you already built through work, entrepreneurship, ministry, volunteering or self-study identified, documented and assessed.

About this programme
Many people build valuable knowledge and skills through work, entrepreneurship, education, volunteering, community involvement, self-study or life experience. An EVC procedure identifies, documents and assesses those already-acquired competencies in a structured way, against a pre-determined educational, occupational or labour-market standard. Luis Brion University offers a personal EVC procedure and is the awarding institution for the resulting Statement of Assessed Competencies or EVC competency certificate. An EVC procedure makes demonstrable competencies visible — it does not guarantee a positive assessment, a diploma, an academic degree, professional authorisation, admission, exemptions, credits, a job or a promotion. The receiving institution, employer, professional body or competent authority independently decides whether and how the result is accepted.
Who is this for?
This programme is intended for:
- Adults with relevant work experience and limited or not fully matching formal qualifications

What you will be able to do

How the procedure works
- 01
Intake and preliminary review
We discuss your objective, your education, work and life experience, the desired standard, and whether an EVC procedure is suitable for you.
- 02
Building the portfolio
You collect relevant evidence: certificates, employer statements, references, reports, projects, publications, photographs, professional products and descriptions of tasks and responsibilities.
- 03
Competency assessment
A qualified assessor tests your relevant, authentic and verifiable evidence against the agreed standard. Where needed, the assessment may also include an interview, written assignment, examination, practical demonstration or workplace observation.
- 04
Written assessment report
You receive a report stating the assessed competencies, the standard used, the evidence reviewed, any development points and recommendations.
- 05
Statement or EVC competency certificate and follow-up advice
When the applicable conditions are met, Luis Brion University issues a Statement of Assessed Competencies or an EVC competency certificate, in line with the nature, scope and outcome of the assessment, together with follow-up advice.

Important conditions
- The fee covers the standard procedure described here. Additional costs — for example external examinations, translations, legalisation, travel or assessment at an external location — are only charged after prior written agreement.
- Nature of the result: the document records which competencies have been demonstrated within the agreed framework and on the basis of the available evidence. It is not a diploma, academic degree or professional licence, and does not automatically grant admission, exemptions, credits or a legally regulated professional authorisation.
- No guarantee of outcome: payment covers the performance of the assessment service, not a predetermined result. Acceptance by third parties cannot be guaranteed.
- Third parties decide independently: educational institutions, employers, professional bodies, accreditation organisations and government bodies determine themselves what significance they attach to the EVC result.
- Candidate obligations: you provide complete, correct and verifiable information in good time and cooperate reasonably with verification. LBU may request additional information, suspend or end an assessment, and refuse or withdraw a statement if evidence is missing, cannot be verified, or proves incorrect, misleading or not authentic.
- Quality: assessment criteria are set in advance and made known to the candidate, assessors are sufficiently qualified and as independent as possible, and personal data and confidential documents are handled carefully under the applicable privacy policy and legislation. A revision or complaints procedure is available; its conditions are provided at registration.
- This information is an information and price proposal, not an unconditional admission. An agreement is only concluded after a complete registration, written confirmation by Luis Brion University and, where required, timely payment. The price proposal is valid for 30 days unless confirmed otherwise in writing.
- Candidates under 18 need the consent of a parent or legal representative.
